When relationships are more complicated than you expected

You’ve built a life that works in many ways. You’re thoughtful, capable, and often the person others rely on for support or perspective. Yet when it comes to relationships and intimacy, things can still feel confusing or unexpectedly painful.

Even after doing meaningful personal growth, parts of your past, especially painful childhood or relational experiences, may still influence how you show up in close relationships. You may notice certain patterns repeating, or find that the confidence you feel in other areas of life does not always translate into your love life.

At times you might struggle with self-doubt in relationships or wonder whether people truly see and value you for who you are. Some people find themselves overthinking interactions, comparing themselves to others, or holding back emotionally out of fear of being hurt. Others feel uncertain about vulnerability, intimacy, or trusting their own instincts when choosing or staying with a partner.

For some, early messages about love, sexuality, or closeness shaped by family, culture, or religion can create lingering feelings of shame, confusion, or pressure around intimacy and connection.

If any of this resonates, you are not alone. Many people who reach out for therapy tell me they feel confident in many areas of life, yet relationships remain the place where they feel most uncertain.

The patterns shaping your relationships can begin to change

EMDR, Internal Family Systems (IFS) and Couples Therapist

Amber Behrouzvaziri, LMHC. Virtual and Carmel Indiana therapist who does EMDR, trauma, IFS and couples therapy.

Hi, I’m Amber.

I work with thoughtful individuals and couples who want to better understand and shift the deeper emotional patterns shaping their relationships, self-worth, and sense of connection.

Many of my clients are motivated and self-aware. They have already done meaningful personal reflection or growth, yet still feel stuck in certain relational dynamics or struggle with vulnerability, intimacy, or self-trust.

In therapy, we explore these patterns with curiosity and compassion so you can move toward greater self-trust, emotional clarity, and more secure, fulfilling relationships.

My Approach

My style is thoughtful, engaging, and depth-oriented, with an emphasis on the mind-body connection. Insight can be powerful, but meaningful change often happens when we slow down enough to notice what is happening internally and respond with greater awareness and compassion.

I integrate several evidence-informed approaches:

  • Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) - An attachment-based approach that helps couples understand and shift painful relational cycles while strengthening emotional connection.

  • Internal Family Systems (IFS) - A compassionate approach that helps you understand and care for the different parts of yourself that carry pain, protection, or self-criticism.

  • EMDR Therapy - A structured therapy that helps the brain process difficult experiences that may still be affecting how you feel, think, and relate to yourself and others today.

Beyond Coping

Therapy is not only about managing symptoms. It can also be a space for deeper healing and growth that helps you feel more grounded, connected, and confident in yourself and your relationships.

You don’t have to carry the weight of your past alone. Some pain is simply too heavy to hold by yourself. That’s not weakness—it’s being human.

Why I Do This Work

With over 10 years of experience, I’ve had the privilege of walking alongside individuals and couples as they:

  • Understand and shift long-standing relational patterns

  • Heal attachment wounds

  • Move toward a greater sense of wholeness, worthiness, and connection—both from within and in their relationships

The Process

  1. Use online scheduling here, fill out the contact form or email. Reach out however you prefer and I will get back with you within one business day.

  2. Determining fit. Good therapist-client fit is critical and I make an effort to gauge this prior to our first meeting through communicating with you via email or a consultation call.

  3. Intake assessment. We will meet for 50 minutes so I can get to know you better, learn what you are struggling with and collaborate with you on identifying your goals.

  4. Ongoing therapy. We will meet weekly or biweekly and sessions will be tailored to your needs and goals in order to maximize progress.

  5. Celebrating your progress and saying goodbye when you are ready. You did it! You get to enjoy your successes and improvements. I will provide you with my recommendations, but ultimately you decide when you are ready to meet less often and graduate from therapy.
